Hosted by the ClimateWorks Foundation and the Grantham Research Institute at the London School of Economics, INSPIRE is a global research stakeholder of the Network for Greening the Financial System (NGFS). It commissions and shapes new research with input and exchange from the NGFS’s Secretariat, its workstreams, and its members.

INSPIRE is chaired by Ilmi Granoff and Nick Robins and its research agenda is guided by an Advisory Committee with domain expertise and close interface with the NGFS.

Background

The NGFS aims to enhance the role of financial systems to manage risks and mobilize capital for low-carbon investments and sustainable development. Today, the NGFS includes over 70 members and 13 observers from around the world.

To support the NGFS and its participants with cutting-edge research to guide policy, INSPIRE is an independent research network purpose-built to commission scholarship and insights from best-in-class scholars and analysts in all parts of the world on key research questions linked to the NGFS work program.

In addition to commissioning research, INSPIRE communicates findings and convenes researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to catalyze action on sustainable finance.

In December 2017, eight leading central banks and supervisors formed the NGFS with the mandate to strengthen the global response required to meet the goals of the Paris Agreement.
