Combatting heat islands with new building codes

Liepa Braciulyte of the New Buildings Institute (NBI) describes the issue of urban heat islands and how NBI is developing building and zoning code language to help cities mitigate the urban heat island effect. This effect contributes to increased energy consumption, increased greenhouse gas emissions, poorer air quality, and adverse health impacts.
