Avi Mahaningtyas

Advisor

    Avi Mahaningtyas has been working in the non-government sector in Indonesia for 30 years. Her main focuses have been climate change, environmental policy and practice, community business development, gender equality, indigenous peoples’ rights, inclusivity, and governance reform. 

    Avi is a consultant on climate change policy, grant-making, and knowledge management and facilitation. She serves on the board of directors of the Sokola Institute and the Rainforest Action Network. From 2015 to 2019, she was a policy advisor on oceans and sustainability with the Lucille and David Packard Foundation. From  2013-2017, she was an Advisor with ClimateWorks’ Climate Land Use Alliance (CLUA) initiative on the role of forested and agricultural landscapes in mitigating climate change, benefiting people, and protecting the environment. From 2011 to 2014 she was an advisor to the Indonesian Task Force for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (Satgas REDD+) and to the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian President. From 2010 to 2013 Avi was the National Coordinator of the Governor’s Climate and Forest Task Force, GCF Indonesia. From 2009 to 2012 Avi was the Chief of Cluster, Environmental and Economic Governance with Kemitraan – The Partnership for Governance Reform Indonesia. From 2002 to 2009 Avi was National Coordinator for the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Program. 

    Avi is a fellow of the Samdhana Institute, which supports community-based natural resource management, social transformation, and cultural revival in Southeast Asia.
